...but is that any reason to freak out, lock the door and refuse to deal with this major cultural shift?
The lives of every American, young and old, especially young, will be affected. The box has been opened and even a constitutional amendment might not be able to put all the contents back in.
My initial reaction, when I finally found a moment to write it down?
In case you missed it...
On Friday 5 unelected justices of the Supreme Court did something vulgar and disgusting to the constitution of the United States of America, several amendments thereof, centuries of western civilization, the Christian and other faiths whose beliefs do no endorse homosexuality, much less gay marriage.
I am so angry at these ignorant, progressive, liberal, radical idiots and so ashamed of and embarrassed for, my nation and my ancestors who helped build it, that the only words I can come up with to describe what the Supremes did are ones I refuse to soil this post by expressing.
No doubt many of my fellow Houstonians had similar thoughts and were preparing to march out into their front yards, or to the nearest street corner, or bike trail, or even downtown to the Pride festivities this weekend, and drop their drawers, bend over, spread their legs athwart the march of history and yell...
KISS MY GOD-FEARING CHRISTIAN ASS, YA PERVERTS!!!!
...at the top of their offended lungs as they fear they've entered some sort of weird timewarp where they are doomed to live a nightmare until God at last brings His judgement down on us all.
Not me...for one thing I don't need half the residents of the Montrose District at my door, in a line stretching all the way to the Heights, asking me "how many times and how hard?" :-D
Neither am I gonna go rioting in the streets, looking to fuck with (as in beat up, not pass out condoms and ask "your place or mine?") half the Gay population of Houston because of this decision.
My mother didn't raise no dipshit, or bigot. :-D
The opinions, from the decision, for and against it, as expressed by the court.
The first is that if you disagree with someone’s
Lifestyle, you must fear or hate them.
The second is that to love someone means you
agree with everything they believe or do.
Both are nonsense.
You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”
Rick Warren
What people do in the privacy of their bedroom is no concern of mine but there ARE those, within the Gay Community, and on the political Left, who feel that nothing less than forcing people of faith to bend to their will and accept their behavior will do and those folks and their hatreds give a bad name to the rest.
"My biggest concerns are ...when are the Che Guevera merchandise going to be removed from shelves and online sites (the guy was a commie and a murdering terrorist, after all)?
And if we removed everything from shelves that people found offensive a lot of stores would go out of business for lack of merchandise to sell and a lot of people, myself included, would be out of work (I am a Wal-Mart cashier).
4th of July is coming so why not stop selling US flags and related items because some folks find them offensive? We already deal with the antics of the Freedom from Religion crowd. There are people who want to go further than they do in banning Christianity.
Don't even get me started on "book banning". Hiding the Confederate flag won't make the history disappear....destroying images, documents and records, will and as the saying goes...those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it."
Along these lines....when will Wal-Mart, Amazon and all the other cowards take all the religious themed materials, from bibles to t-shirts and more, off sale?
Will publishers and product manufacturers stop producing certain things, making it hard for even religious stores to stock their shelves?
Will individuals and churches be forced against their beliefs to fall in line?
How will this affect our education system and children when they are caught between being taught one thing in the classroom and another by their parents and church?
Christianity and other faiths, after all, hold beliefs that are in direct opposition to what is now the supreme law of the land (See Romans or Corinthians or Leviticus — the parts where homosexual sex is condemned as abominable and mortally sinful.).
Overreaction? I hope not, but the radical activists on the Left, among progressives and within the LGBT Community will not want to stop with Friday's victory.
UPDATE - 9am 6/30/15: Are Orthodox Christians Going to Have to Learn to Live as Exiles in Our Own Country? A powerful, MUST read for people of faith... “Discerning the meaning of the present moment requires sobriety, precisely because its radicalism requires of conservatives a realistic sense of how weak our position is in post-Christian America,” Rod Dreher of the American Conservative writes in Time magazine.
These radicals are cowards; they would not dream of ever protesting what is happening to their compatriots in the Middle East by going there or just marching in front of a local Mosque.
There are so-called Christians who think God would approve of the vile ways they react to Gays and to the new decision; where they get that idea is beyond me.
There are politicians and media folks who, just a few short years ago, went on record as against Gay marriage, for faith reasons, but saw the political benefit of "evolving" on the issue since (Both Clintons and President Obama, to just name 3).
I don't hate Gays; I am disgusted with the radicals among 5% of the country doing all they can to change the definition of a word that will allow those intolerant of those who don't agree with their lifestyle power to force them to do things.
There are people I know and admire for their writing and creativity, some of whom are fellow pet bloggers, who are LGBT; I've had co-workers at Wal-Mart who were Gay.
Some have gotten, or plan to get, married; So be it.
I commend them for their commitment to their relationship and future lives together, though I disagree with calling it marriage.
I wish them good health and a strong, long-lasting, relationship.
Those that do not know me will judge me as an evil and hateful bigot for not supporting Gay marriage, not to mention a racist for sticking a Confederate Battle Flag pin on my new Stetson (My maternal ancestry is quite varied, what little I know of it, and I'm not going to disown any ancestors who fought for the South, regardless of their reasons, which I don't know.).
So be it...nothing I can say will ever convince them otherwise. They can explain their reasoning to their Creator when the time comes.

Sixty-two percent of white evangelical Protestants and 54 percent of non-white Protestants oppose same-sex marriage, according to the Public Religion Research Institute.
But support for gay marriage is growing even within some evangelical communities, driven in part by younger generations who have gay friends and don’t see opposing same-sex relationships as central to their faith.

UPDATE: 1030pm Monday - A Mormon friend shares her thoughts on the Gay Marriage decision.
A decade ago, this coming August, I took advantage of the opportunity to take the approximately 45 min. tour of the, then, new Temple opened up, in Newport Beach, by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose believers are better known as Mormons.
I shared my experience in a lengthy post. on my original blog, that got quite the collection of interesting comments.
Mormonism is a Christian sect whose practices and beliefs are controversial to many, yet their genealogical website and resources are highly respected, including me.
A long time, close, friend of mine, in the pet blogging world, Sue Strong (Mog, who left a comment to THIS post before she wrote the 2nd piece), is a Mormon and she has written a pair of posts, in recent days, with her thoughts and links to what Mormons believe about marriage and the LDS response to Friday.

Are the Ten Commandments and Christian tradition and Natural Law as defined by Aquinas just fine for their time, but not for ours?
If what Justice Kennedy wrote Friday represents moral truth, what can be said in defense of a Christianity that has taught for 2,000 years that homosexual acts are socially destructive and morally decadent behavior?
I see a new post coming. I have more links. We're not talking banned books here. Obama has used the IRS against Conservative and Tea Party groups. He will use it to remove tax-exempt status from churches that do not comply. They know who we are if we claimed a deduction. The Justice Department will go after churches just like they went after bakers and wedding photographers. They fined a pizza shop for just suggesting they wouldn't cater a gay wedding not actually refuse. Common Core is a massive data collection scheme and will be used against parents that teach correct principles. Children will be taught to spy on and rat out their parents and I am betting CPS will threaten to take them away. Obama has already suggested supporters change our beliefs. Hillary will demand it and forcibly put us in reeducation camps to change our religious beliefs. Oh and the SPLC already has spies in churches. It will get worse, far worse.
