Change is good. So is evolution.
I became a blogger in May 2002, and over the years writing on my 3 blogs and, as my cats, on Meowsings of an Opinionated Pussycat, have allowed me to share the news, and share our opinions, and our lives.
Through those blogs I re-discovered a talent for poetry, and creative writing, and amateur journalism, and I discovered the courage to change my life for the better, a journey that had begun in 1998, and is a work in progress.
I also took up Facebook like just about everyone else on the planet.
Recently I've decided to consider creating a 2nd Facebook account, a page devoted to my writing side, to begin the New Year.
I have been something of a creationist, over a decade of blogging, bringing to life various "personalities", and concepts.
So where do I go from here? What, and where, is my place in the blogosphere, and other types of social media of today?
Eventually, EVERYONE stops by to see what the Mad Macedonian has to say, his place is an establishment of infinite delights: creative writing, & discourses on the many things that interest him, even his everyday life, are some of what can be sampled at Musings. So wear your thinking cap, check your expectations at the door, and don't forget to tip the bouncer (Elvira Mistress of Felinity) on the way out....
Welcome to the 800th post on Musings of a Mad Macedonian, since October 2007, and the 4,537th blog post in my career, over 4 blogs, since 2002.
As long time fans of my writing know I am a storyteller, poet, humorist, commentator, reviewer, journalist, simple YouTube video creator, and photographer.
I once had an essay surprisingly published in a Star Trek anthology (1990), been asked to review the cycling part of a soon to be published book in which I was quoted, spoken before city councils and community meetings, been invited to speak at REI and the Riverside Bicycle Club, and been interviewed by The Daily Pilot in Orange County CA.
In 2011 I was among several runners-up in the inaugural Purina Cat Chow Correspondent contest.
I have had numerous letters to the editor published in newspapers, magazines (OC Weekly says I'm "screwed"!), and comic books, since the 1970’s, and been offered opportunities to review products, and books. I was invited to attend a no kill shelter movement mymposium, in Toronto, Canada, last spring, but was unable to attend.
I have been invited to attend a red carpet charity event, and a film premiere, and wrote about each. I spent 2 years as a blogger invited to attend the concerts of the Orange County Pacific Symphony, and write about the experiences, and performed at poetry open mics.
I have annoyed a founder of the critical mass cycling movement and created quite a stir in the process (Scroll for several posts in mid Nov. 2005 that tell the tale), my cat Nikita has pissed off PETA, and I have had my work praised by the famous and the infamous, online, and off.
As an old t-shirt I once owned said: "I'm strange, maybe even a little crazy, but there's never a dull moment!"
So, where do I go from here?
I moved to Houston, last September, to work on that. I had hoped to find a job by now, not settling for something familiar, such as retail (19 yrs. experience, 11 as a store manager), unless for the short term, and definitely nothing like the customer assistance operator job I left at Verizon after 6 yrs.
I didn’t want to just settle, as a friend described it, but find something I can do that is new and different, and pays well, maybe working online from home, an idea recently suggested to me. But then my current eye medical issues cropped up, and my unemployment will end at the end of this month (See next post for an important update).
Most importantly, however, I want to do more via my writing, and speaking, talents. I have had friends tell me I should look into editing work, and another has been encouraging me to look into freelance writing, and turning some of my 10 yrs. of blog posts into books.
A first step in this new creative direction has been using MS Word to write my blog posts, and using spell check, one step in the journey toward writing more professionally, and less “cutesy” (smileys every whipstitch!).
A 2nd step is going to be setting up a FB page for my writing side, separate from my personal FB account.
A 3rd step is saving all my blog posts, and doing spell check and other things, to spruce them up.
A 4th step is finally attending Blog Paws in May and hopefully get a sponsor to help me do so.
Other steps include adding appropriate tools to my computer to help me in my writing, join some websites (I’m on Google+ and LinkedIn, and YouTube), use my old Pinterest account more, and learn to use Twitter better.
I also want to get out and about in Houston, make connections, attend events including open mics, get to know my neighbors, and even other animal bloggers in the area.
I am optimistic and hopeful about my future, willing to learn and try new things. It’s why I chose to move to Houston, believing there was nothing left for me in SoCal.
I am grateful for all I’ve had, for all I now have, and for all I shall have. I have a growing faith in my ability to achieve my personal and creative hopes and dreams. There is no difficulty that I cannot overcome. If I expect the best from myself I will achieve the best.
I am excited about the possibilities going forward despite everything.
Something good is about to happen in my life, and I trust God that I will discover it.
I will do my best to follow my dreams, create and believe, live for each day, laugh out loud at the challenges in my life, and love the journey that is the rest of my time on earth.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
There is only one word that can possibly describe this blog post - phenomenal!
