When I wrote a series of posts about my new Camera Monopod Walking Stick, last month, I believed troubles were finally behind me.
Begin here: A MAN AND HIS STICK: A Love Story
Initial walks and opportunities to use the stick as a monopod worked out fine.
Then, one day I visited a nearby park in order to take some photos and the internal mechanism that holds the spike came loose and was unable to be kept securely in place.
Reaching out to Serenity Bamboo about returning it for another fix they apologized for the problem and decided that the best thing to do was to start over and concentrate on making sure the new stick doesn't have whatever problems the 1st one had.
I could keep the original as an art display piece (with the right display case if I can find one), even use it as a prop in photos and the new one would be sent at no cost.
As you can tell the natural coloring of the stick is different and flashier than the first one and the artwork is different and colored differently, than the first stick.
I found what Linda said about this side of her work interesting:
" I've never been able to make two exactly the same, even when I try. Not only am I not that good, the coloring of each piece of bamboo lends itself to tinting the colors I use in a different manner each time I use them. Sometimes blues are greens, reds are more yellow, browns are more orange. Just depends on the piece."
Not that good? Bullshit! She is quite skilled at what she does in such a limited space to work with and I love it!
Anyway....as for the choice of name for the stick that, all going well, will be my go-to companion for walks and photography...I had to think about it a bit...
Until I remembered a little prop I had!
The mini Stetson used by one of the Opinionated Pussycats has a new, 2nd, use, hee, hee!
As readers of my blogs know I claim language skills on a par with Dr. Doolittle. From my cats and other creatures to inanimate objects, I share my creativity and humor by giving voice to what's around me or what I encounter on my travels and in various activities, as the muse strikes.
With 2 sticks in the house, I had to find a way to distinguish between them, aside from just their looks and purpose and the fact that the new one is a bit taller and bigger round.
The 1st name I came up with for the new walking stick? Pokastickatus, Massachusetts Monopod Hiking Stick (Serenity Bamboo is in MA and the state has an "Indian" for a Senator, hee, hee!)...
Without a mini war bonnet, THAT name just would not work and, besides, I didn't need cranky snowflakes and radicals clogging up my comments and wasting my time with deleting.
That was when I remembered the hat.
I live in Texas, am conservative and patriotic.
I had a TX flag pin and a pin with the American flag and Don't Tread On Me flag.
I remembered one of the best TV series of the past 30 years: Walker, Texas Ranger.
The choice of name suddenly became obvious and so very right to me:
WALKER, Texas Monopod Hiking Stick
The Lens of a Camera on a Monopod Hiking Stick
By Kiril Kundurazieff
With humble and sincere apologies to Tirk Wilder and Chuck Norris
Through the lens of a camera,
On a Monopod Hiking Stick,
The unsuspecting subject, alive or inanimate,
Had better know it is within sight.
'cause the eyes of a photographer and writer are upon you,
Anything you do, or are shown doing, he's gonna see.
When you're in Texas look around you,
'cause you never know where this creative team is gonna be.
