Good luck on your decision making. This could be a very good move for you.

I know you will never "give up", though there will be change. And I have to agree, the world is full of possibilities. It often takes getting to the point of no hope to make a big change. I hope only the best changes are in store for you in 2017. And CA's not so bad! I live here! Lol

Success or failure is not a permanent state.

There is a larger process called becoming.

Some days we're failing, some days we're succeeding.

The tomorrows keep on coming, each one a fresh chance.

Hope you make it back brother!!

Everyone's comment here is so uplifting and so positive. I don't know why I feel sad about this news, but I do. Houston seemed like such a doable place to visit you, California seems impossible. I've been to Houston once before, never to California. If you do decide to move, I would love to visit at some point down the road!

I am encouraged by the thought that you'll be significantly closer to your family and they can help you if you have medical emergencies.

You may also be able to be more active socially, which is something you've wanted to do for 4 years anyway. Perhaps your relatives will accompany you to the cat events and the poetry slams. It is more fun together than alone.

I have full faith that your blogging, as others have mentioned, will continue full steam ahead. I have full faith and confidence in you that you'll continue churning out brilliant, funny, endearing, touching writing about many topics.

Best wishes and safe travels from your friends in Alexandria, Virginia.

I can understand why you would choose to move.

I don't understand why you can't have all 3 cats with you.

Please do not give this poor kitty to a shelter.

I will take her, I know I am in Massachusetts, but with all our blogging connections we can find a way to get her transported to me or somewhere I can meet someone to get her.

Third time trying as it always times out. May be better with family if you can all get along. Better even if your sister is a good cook. You need better nutrition. Good luck in whatever you do. You're going to need it in California.

Thank you my friends for your kind words of support and encouragement.

Thank you, as well, to the surprising number of people (23, as I type) who have hit the Facebook Share button, whoever you are.

Ellen, you sure about this? The name of your blog speaks to how many cats you already have, my friend. :-D

You have far more connections and readers than I ever have had, here , or on the Opinionated Pussycat. My style of cat blogging is unique compared to the usual and finding a way to attract interest has never been easy.

hell, I couldn't even save the legendary Carnival of the Cats from obscurity. :-D

The idea of passing her on to someone else and bypassing the Shelter and Rescue system is not something I felt I could afford to attempt, financially so that's why I was going to look into the best option here.

As for why I have to give up a cat....

My sister has 2 Dachshunds and adding me and my cats into their lives, and them into my cats lives is going to be stressful enough without them being outnumbered by newcomers.

That's not the only reason, but it's an important one.

My human always thought that life in Houston, with no family and not many friends, seemed a little lonely for you. Maybe coming back to California would work out better - we do have benefits here that other states don't.

I can only imagine how heart-breaking the thought is of giving up one of your kitties, though - they've been your besties through all of this. You know the Cat Blogosphere looks out for its own, and I'm sure Friday will have an awesome home with Ellen or maybe somebody else - and as a group, we WILL find a way to make it happen! Still, I wish she could come along with you.

RE: My human always thought that life in Houston, with no family and not many friends, seemed a little lonely for you.

I've always been a loner, never had much of a social life as I couldn't afford to to lots of things and had no interest in hanging out in the usual social setting for "connecting". :-D

RE: Maybe coming back to California would work out better - we do have benefits here that other states don't.

For as long as the state is solvent and remains part of the nation....there ARE some Loons who want to secede, after all. :-D

It is not an easy decision to make, but a necessary one.
The important thing is that while a move is still months away and depends on when my sister is ready....it is best to find Friday a new home sooner than later.

This is something that doesn't need to be rushed and can be properly planned and worked out, where ever she ends up.
