After a lifetime of cycling the streets, river, and beach trails and mountain roads of southern California, I packed up my trusty Specialized Sirrus Sport Hybrid bike and moved to Houston in 2012.
I set about exploring my new home, eventually adding a work commute to my routine.
Sadly, there came a time when I had to retire my old bike, and throw away my old pannier set as well, and go without for a while.
In Sept. of last year a bike was donated to me, though, and I was back in the saddle.
It was a refurbished 1991 Specialized Crossroads Sport Step Through Hybrid bike (still has the sticker from the Clear Lake Bike Barn that sold it to its original rider).
Step Through bikes, long considered a "Woman's" bike, have become popular with people my age and more and more in recent years and quality bikes are on the market at reasonable prices.
Having used this bike for almost a year I find it easy to get on and off and an easy ride for the type of cycling I have always done and hope to return to doing...20 or more miles of exploring my surroundings.
