I have lived in Houston since September 2012, but it was only in March of 2013 that I took to the streets on my trusty steed, Cleopatra, in any serious way.
Having explored the length of Westheimer, last spring, in the middle of August I took on Memorial Dr., beginning by paying my respects to the Bush Monument at Franklin and Bagby.
Memorial Dr. begins at Bagby St. and the 45 frwy. and traffic enters it at prairie and leaves it onto Texas Ave.
The first 3 miles, in the Bagby/Prairie/Memorial area are almost freeway-like.
The ride starts off with Buffalo Bayou on your left and historic Washington and Glenwood cemeteries on your right, as well as the Houston Police Memorial.
At around 3.90 miles you enter historic Memorial Park, at Crestwood Dr..
Riding through the park area you will eventually pass under the West Loop Freeway (610).
At 5.30 miles Memorial become one way until it leaves the park at Post Oak and the 610 at 6 miles.
I enjoyed the beauty of nature in the middle of the big city and saw many walkers and joggers along the way.
