Earlier this month I, the Mad Houstonian, did what any newcommer to a new state would do, if he cared about the fate of his city, county, state, and nation...registered to vote.
On Friday the County Registrar of Voters sent me a letter telling me I didn't exist, and so they couldn't let me vote, so there!
Well, OK, not in those exact words, but you get the idea. :-D
How did they come to this conclusion?
It appears someone, in the process of transcribing my info into the system misspelled my last name.
Kundurazieff became Kindurazieff
Needless to say I made a phone call, Monday morning. :-D
They were all full of apologies, and said the error would be corrected within 4 days, and I would be in the system, and able to vote.
Early voting started Monday in Texas and, according to the Houston Chronicle, the initial participation is setting all time records.
Even though one can apparently chose their polling place if there is one closer to where they are when they get the sudden urge to go vote, instead of being required to use the one in their neighborhood, I will use the one in my zip code since I can walk the few blocks to it.
As long as my info is in the system I don't even need to show my registration card, just my state ID, so will try to vote early, maybe even today.
On Tuesday evening I decided to go find the joint, and take a picture of me out front. :-D
Almost couldn't locate the place because of all the signs blocking the view! :-D
In 33 years of voting, in Ca., I have never seen anything remotely like this.
Talk about overkill!
All but 2 of the signs appeared to deal with local candidates and issues.
There was 1 Ted Cruz sign, and a partially hidden Romney/Ryan sign next to it...No Obama/Biden signs were anywhere to be seen. :-D
As a well dressed 60-ish white guy replied with a laugh, when I asked him if this was typical in Texas, "We believe in freedom in Texas, and take it seriously."
I laughed, and told him I was a Republican only recently relocated from Ca., and he smiled. :-D
****UPDATE - 530PM VIA CELL PHONE PHOTO****
Looking east from Hillcroft and Richmond in Houston....
What does that remind you of in the sky?
I know the Democrats have written off Texas this election, but really, do they have to take it so personally? :-D
