Hi, everybody, and a very pleasant good evening to you, wherever you may be...
I am The Mad Macedonian! Writer, Blogger, Poet, Humorist, Cyclist, Walker, Photographer, Cat Lover, Genealogist, and more!
It's Day 11 of the 2011 Sit Spot Challenge, and I'm getting close to nature in middle of Huntington Beach, right in the heart of Orange County.
If you missed the start of this adventure, then check out this post, and follow the link at the end.
Actually, last Monday was Day 11.
This whole week was a fascinating one at my Sit Spot, and Sunday with the Hummingbirds was just the start of it. ;-D
My Sit Spot e-mail, for this day, suggested the following exercise:
When you go to your sit spot, bring a blindfold with you. You can use a bandana, scarf, hat, long sock, anything that you can't see through. Wear it the entire time at your spot. For those of you that need to Up-Level here, walk to your spot blindfolded and then sit. If you still need an extra challenge, bind your hands.
What happens to your other senses when your sight is taken away?
Okaaay...I compromised by pulling up my sweater, and covering my head. ;-D
As I sat there I could hear the cyclists pedaling along a nearby trail, a few barking Dogs, an airplane passing overhead, and the varied chirping of different birds.
Not knowing exactly from which direction, or how close, some of the sounds were was the biggest difference in sensation.
I heard the chirping of little Ducklings, and the authoritative voice of an adult Duck, as well, but when I sat up to look for them they were back out on the lake.
I had not seen any chicks until this day, and it appears to me that the little ones, & their parents, had been in the more foliage covered sections of the lake further away from the walking/cycling trail, until they were old enough to safely venture out in public.
