I grew up in Pomona, Ca., and remember seeing the Orange Groves that I used to walk thru, and play in, disappear.
First it was Fruit Orchards, then, in the last decade, some of the Dairy Farms of nearby Chino started disappearing from Western San Bernardino County.
Last month, via an article, and video, the Los Angeles Times told the story of Steve Tellam, a fourth-generation cowboy in San Diego County. Tellam's cattle business has gone to hell since the 1970s, as his herd slipped from over 6000 head, back in the day, to 500 today.
A Tip of the Hat to Donald Douglas, of the Orange County blog American Power (He says he writes "Commentary and analysis on American politics, culture, and national identity, U.S. foreign policy and international relations, and the state of education - from a neoconservative perspective", but is also a College Prof who writes about other things that interest him, especially in Southern California.), who commented on this tale of one of the last Cowboys in San Diego County.

Ah, this is making me homesick;
I grew up in San Bernardino County.
I remember the orange groves so well.
We used to go to the Orange Show every year.
