The other day I shared my picture filled report of attending the Santa Ana Tea Party.
Tea Party, Santa Ana Ca.: Speaking Up For America, the Free, the Republic
One of my favorite Liberal rags, The OC Weekly, has a wonderfully opinionated, and resourceful, Staff Blog called Navel Gazing, and there were 2 interesting posts related to the Tea Party that give you an idea how some of those opposed to it in SoCal reacted to it.
Spencer Kornhaber attended the event, and seemed most amused with all the signs being waved about, and not so much interested in the speakers on the stage ;-D
Like bitches and queers have done, the leaders at the Santa Ana Tea Party reclaimed the slurs used against them...
The speakers weren't the main attraction, though...the stars at the Tea Party -- as many speakers pointed out -- were the people who attended.
America, see, has become -- or maybe is about to become -- a socialist, despotic country. That's the gist of the grievances listed on the home-made signs, shouted en mass and discussed in interviews with the teabaggers.
Spencer, and his photographer, managed to find people, and slogans, that confirmed the Liberal view that we is all Wackos, but to their credit they also did find evidence that we was just expressing certain traditional Conservative ideas "forcefully". ;-D
As for the screamer, I didn't encounter that person at all so can't comment on his sanity, or lack thereof. ;-D
Read: From the Front Lines of the Santa Ana Teabagging.
Check out the comments, most of which were from Conservatives in a postive bit of dialogue with the writer (Cathy, Megan, and Mike).
Also check out the great 39 picture slide show. Some of the comments managed to be amusing without being offensive, the rest showed no effort at being amusing, much less offensive, just no effort. ;-D
Obviously Spencer didn't talk to the 2 people at the event that I did...
Oh, and in their effort to seek out Tea Bags how they missed taking MY mug shot is beyond my understanding. ;-D
In the 2nd piece...
Matt Coker wastes valuable space by giving a platform to someone who seems to be a better Jazz Musician than he is a political commentator, and Matt tosses off insults, and innuendo by sharing the musicians accusation that FOX NEWS is behind the protests, and then he calls concerned Conservatives "tightwad Right-tards".
Read the great response, in the comments, to the points made in the piece, by someone called DP Resident. ;-D
One of the things I admire about the OC Weekly is that they WILL allow well reasoned dissenting points of view in their online, and print editions, even if they is espoused by one of us Right-wing Extremists. ;-D
The comments by Jenn, a supposed Conservative, and Rich, a supposed Liberal, are just too embarrassing to have been allowed to see the light of day.
READ: Revenge of the Anti-Teabagger.
The OC Weekly may be Liberal, and I may not agree with some of their opinions, and investigative reporting, but if I didn't think they were worth keeping abreast of, regarding life in Orange County, then I would not list them in my sidebar. ;-D
As for an answer to the question in my title...based on these 2 examples...it's too close to call. ;-D

Thanks for posting your Tea Party pics and commentary.
I enjoy reading your blog.
In the South we think of the West Coast as pretty Liberal, so it is nice to see a different side.
