11 Days in March: A Tale of Courage and Survival

When Daddy sat me down and told me he was going to be gone for a while and asked me if I could handle it, and also help him by running the blogs for him...I was confident in my reply.

Afterall, I'd done two 4 days stints, in my youth, so how bad could it get?

When Daddy brought out his suitcases I gave them the once over.

It had been over 6 years since I'd last seen them, afterall. ;-D

Damn, but those things are huge, and roomy!

I love the smell, though!

After helping Daddy do his preliminary packing (All the clothes for the trip, and some other stuff, too.), I got my treat reward for all that hard work!

I like this picture because it shows off my unique coloring in such a cool way!

Next, I helped Daddy organize his plane, and train, tickets, Hostel info, airport maps, DC Metro brochures, and Touristy info stuff into a folder so none of it would get lost.

I took this job VERY SERIOUSLY!

Daddy said it was important he had this all in one place so he could keep it close to him and not lose it.

When I asked what would happen if he did, he smiled at me, rubbed my belly reaaallly good, and said, "I won't, so don't worry your pretty little head over it, little buddy."

I promptly didn't give it another thought (A really good belly rub has that effect on me, what can I say?).

The day before he was to leave Daddy made sure I was all set with enough food, and litter, to content an arm, well, okay, not THAT much, but enough to keep ME for the duration. ;-D

Daddy had arrainged for one of his sisters to come by every couple of days to check on me, and this made me a little nervous because I hadn't seen much of either one over the years and, besides, both were complete Dog People.

Anyway, all was ready, and while I slept most of the evening before, Daddy came home from work an hour early, and got only a couple of hours sleep before getting up, petting Ol' Sleepyhead (me!) on the head, and heading out the door at 2am.

Yes! I slept right thru what might have been the last time I would ever see my beloved Daddy again!

I awoke at 5am, and went to burrow under the covers with Daddy, as I usually do, in the first gambit of my daily routine of trying to get him up earlier than he wants (7 -830am is his usual), and it was then that I realized that I was very much alone...
