When Bob Hope died in 2003, at the age of 100, I was inspired to write:
Thanks for the Memories, Mr. Hope
Thanks for being you
During the 40's and World War 2
To our troops you were true and red, white, and blue,
Thanks, Bob, for the memories.
Thanks for going to Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East
Your words were just as soothing and comforting
As a Preacher or a priest
Thanks, Bob, for the memories.
Thanks for the jokes and the comedy
Through radio, film and TV
You were there for my parents and for me
Thanks, Bob, for the memories.
Thanks for the laughter and the tears
I'd write more, but my eyes are wet
So I'll just raise a glass and say cheers
And, thanks, Bob, for the memories.
