Are you ready for my adventures in cooking? :-D
Ever since my Sainted Ma died, in 1990 I've had to cook for myself (In addition to relying on fast food, and frozen dinners, on occasion).
My first adventures in cooking occurred as a teen when I learned to scramble a truly MEAN egg (Actually three) for my breakfast, progressing to fixing my own Mac and cheese/tomato concoctions.
Of course I became expert at putting together peanut butter sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, various lunch meat sandwiches and assorted other delicacies essential for a bachelors very survival.
The next big step in my Culinary Edumication came in 1995 when a friend of mine gave me a basic recipe for a rice and ground beef meal and 1 for fixing a Pot Roast.
God! Was I in heaven, or what? :-D
Chef Kiril was in his element! ;-D
Well, this led to my eventually improvising additions to the 1st recipe and even to my Macaroni meals, and then buying my first crock pot.
A 6 qt. one. (Well, Mom always said my eyes were bigger than my stomach!)
I also started buying various cookbooks in preperation for the day when I could afford to splurge some on my grocery shopping and expand my meal horizons.
In recent years I've mastered the Smoothie Machine, the Waffle Maker and a few other gadgets as well.
I've still gotta explore those cookbooks!
Afterall, a man's gotta eat and if he lives alone he's gotta continually learn to cook for himself!
Soooo...
I intend to share my cooking skills, here, and encourage the brave to fix and try my handywork. ;-D
Naked Chef eat yer heart out! ;-D
First up is my Special Combo Meal.
One fine work day I tossed ingredients in the crock pot at 1230pm, set it on low, and turned it off at 11pm when I got home from work.
I knew it was done when I approached my front door.
I could smell it from there.
I opened the door and it was so funny...
Nikita followed me around with such a plaintive meowing it was obvious he was more than just happy to see me come home.
As I worked in the kitchen to transfer the meal from the crock to another bowl, for the fridge, he leaped on the table close by when I took the lid off the pot and piped up again. :-D
As for the recipe:
The Mad Macedonian's Special Combo Meal
1 cup brown rice
1lb. lean ground beef
1 small can of Peas
1 small can of corn
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 a pk. sliced mushrooms, chopped
Some chopped onion if you wish.
1 pk. onion soup mix
2 cups water
Salt and pepper/ Seasoning Salt to taste
The peas and corn cans are the tiny ones that are half the size of the regular cans.
Add ingredients (Rice 1st) to 2-4 Qt. Crock Pot, in the morning, or early afternoon, so the meal is ready in the evening, or later at night, or add before bed so the meal is ready in the morning.
I crumble up the ground beef, add a layer between each of the other ingredients, with the Onion Soup mix added last before the water.
Turn crock to LOW for duration.
PRAY....
Just kidding!!
It's delicious!! :-D
Enough to last 1 person over several days, or to serve to your family, or friends, for dinner.
